Gerry opened his law office in 1991 after practicing law a number of years in Vermont’s public and private sectors. Building on his prior commercial, corporate and regulatory practices, Gerry began focusing on municipal, zoning and land use.
Gerry was Commissioner of the Department of Public Service from 1985-1988. During the mid-1980s Gerry was Chairman of the Vermont State Nuclear Advisory Panel. Previously, Gerry served as Special Counsel to the Public Service Board. He also served as General Counsel and Public Advocate for the Department of Public Service before becoming Commissioner.
Gerry’s practice includes business, corporate and utility law, health care, municipal, probate, historic preservation and land conservation law, solid waste and compost law, and zoning and land use law.
Memberships and Affiliations
Gerry has served on a number of municipal, state and private boards and commissions over his career, including vice chairman of the Certificate of Need Board (Hospital and Medical Expenditures); member of the Board of Directors of the Vermont Land Trust; member of the Board of Vermont Life Magazine; and member of the Board of Directors of Prevent Child Abuse Vermont. He has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Clean Energy Group. He is Chairman of the Environmental Section of the Vermont Bar Association (2009-present). Gerry also served as an advisor to the Legislative Commission on Act 250 (Act 47) from 2017-2019.
Gerry has a strong interest in historic preservation, clean energy technology and the natural environment. Gerry enjoys the outdoors and exploring Vermont and New England with his daughter Grace and her dog Brownie.
